ECMS 1.9 - A Major Milestone

Thursday, Nov 10, 2011

ECMS is about to see a major upgrade in version 1.9, we've got hundreds of changes already completed with more to come before the final release.  The most important change is a move to a much more modular and object oriented architecture that has enabled us to reduce the ECMS memory footprint dramatically, in some cases by more than a factory of 10!

Other changes include more consistent use of tools across the system, specifically views and convenience tools.  Permissions have been extended to every corner of the system allowing more fine grained control of record access.  The forms system has also undergone a huge number of upgrades and changes, greatly improving the features available within forms, a more complete implementation of the "sticky" nature of form fields, a much more attractive look and feel which reduces the burden users were feeling when staring at more complex and lengthy forms.

As a result of these few and the many other changes, 1.9 gives us the real flexibility we needed to move forward with, really paving the way for 2.0 development to progress.  Upgrades will be simplified greatly and will be rolled out more often without impacting other areas of ECMS like in the past.

Stay tuned, we're currently running 1.9 in Beta on several sites and as we get closer to closing the remaining bugs and tweaks out we'll be announcing the broad release date.

Cheers,

Kevin Farley
